Speaker Information and Event Schedule

Speaker: Mr. Bryan Klein is a Senior Support Engineer at Thunderhead Engineering, specializing in sales and support issues, along with online and on-site training. Bryan is also an Instructor for courses provided by the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE).

Bryan previously worked in the Advanced Fire Fighting Technology Group and the Fire Modeling Group of the Engineering Laboratory (EL) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Here, he supported various areas of research and development. One of the main tasks of the Fire Modeling Group was to establish state-of-the-art best practices for FDS and Smokeview (SMV) code development and automate the V&V process. Additionally, as a member of the Advanced Fire Fighting Technology Group, he provided simulations and recreations of fatal fire incidents. He specializes in collecting and creating geometry, materials, and ignition characteristics, generating input data for fire models, and conducting parametric studies on ignition locations, ventilation, and material flammability for specific scenarios.

Before joining NIST, he worked at the Western Fire Center, Inc. fire research laboratory. There, he was a recognized expert witness in civil and criminal cases and maintained compliance with the laboratory's ISO 17025 certification.

Key points:

- Many updates previous courses

- New BIM converter in PyroSim

- Learn how Ventus can save time for Smoke Control and Pollutant Analysis

- Recognize the power of Triggers in Pathfinder for Complex Scenarios and Dynamic Behavior

- Dynamically modify specific Profile parameters instead of switching to different profiles

- Dynamic and animated obstacles to movement

- Create custom Avatar animations and your own new character models

- Always up-to-date with all the latest developments

Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) is one of the CFD software approved and listed in the Singapore Fire Safety Engineering Guidelines 2015. PyroSim provides a user-friendly graphical interface for FDS and is recognized for its ability to quickly, reliably, and accurately simulate complex fire models. It allows design teams to create complex and cost-effective designs in the early stages without compromising the desired level of fire safety.

Pathfinder is one of the approved evacuation software included in the Singapore Fire Safety Engineering Guidelines 2015. It is an emergency evacuation simulator that includes an integrated user interface and 3D animated results, allowing users to evaluate evacuation models. The software combines flexibility in controlling people's evacuation and their behavior to deliver optimal 3D simulation results.

The objective of this 2-day workshop is to give engineers the opportunity to explore and experience using Pathfinder in evacuation simulations. Through guided hands-on workshops, participants will be able to perform evacuation models for crowded places such as shopping centers, sports complexes, etc.

Ventus is designed to provide pressure simulation for smoke control analysis. The simulation is performed by CONTAM-X, an open-source application maintained and developed by NIST.

Like PyroSim and FDS, Ventus provides a premium user experience for industry-leading simulation software. Using our expertise in providing 3D model applications for fire engineering, Ventus will exceed the needs of CONTAM users wanting to accelerate smoke control projects and pollutant analysis.
