Earth Hour 2024 this year takes place on 23/3/2024, marking our first participation with the message of reducing carbon footprint – Heading towards net zero in the context of greenhouse gases warming up the earth.

We are living in a context where global climate change affects every aspect of life. Environmental issues, ozone layer protection are of special concern to many ries, including Vietnam. Governments around the world have implemented many policies and regulations to protect the environment, reduce the impact of greenhouse gases with the goal of achieving net zero emissions.

Also an annual event, Earth Day 2024, organized by the WWW, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, calls for concerted efforts towards net zero to raise awareness about environmental protection. Earth Hour is not just about turning off vehicles using electricity for 1 hour, but an opportunity for all of us to act together to protect the Earth.

The Vietnamese government has committed to reducing net emissions to 0 (net zero) and has taken many actions to fulfill this commitment by improving legal and policy frameworks. Vietnamese businesses have started implementing greenhouse gas inventory reports, applying solutions to reduce carbon emissions, save energy, use renewable energy, etc. In addition, Vietnam will also join the carbon trading market and is expected to introduce the first carbon credit exchange in 2025.

Vietnam is transitioning to a green economy, a circular economy, or a low-carbon economy. In this context, reducing carbon footprint plays an important role in the process towards Net Zero. Reducing carbon footprint, synonymous with reducing emissions, is a key prerequisite to realizing the Net Zero target by 2050.

Earth Hour 2024 calls on businesses to improve production processes, apply operational optimization solutions, save energy, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Alongside online activities on mainstream media and social networks, many direct events are also organized to raise awareness and call on the community to act for Vietnam's common goal. On this occasion, you can do small things like cycling, planting trees, sowing seeds, using public transport to commute, using environmentally friendly products, or simply reducing the use of plastic bags every day to minimize waste. We can turn off unnecessary electrical devices not only on March 23, 2024, but also on other days. These small actions will contribute to reducing carbon footprint.
